Our story began in 2017 at Iowa State University. Ana was a biochemistry major, and I was studying architecture, but what truly brought us together was our shared love of music—we both played clarinet in the ISU Wind Ensemble. We didn’t talk much during that first year, but in our second year, everything changed on the Wind Ensemble’s trip to the UK. The adventure of being abroad sparked endless conversations between us, and we quickly discovered a deep connection. After returning to the U.S., we started dating and grew even closer when we moved in together during the pandemic. In the summer of 2021, just before Ana started medical school, I proposed at Bandshell Park in Ames—the same spot where we had our first date.
